A Dream | | | | In the summer of 2002, Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, Senior Pastor of New Hope O’ahu, and Mike Lwin, a member of Pastor Wayne’s senior management team, had a dream of a new church plant on the Leeward side of O’ahu with a specific vision to reach the Leeward community for Jesus Christ. | | | | | | | Humble Beginnings | | | | On January 12, 2003, that dream became a reality as Mike and a small team of volunteer leaders held New Hope Leeward’s Grand Opening Service at the Leeward Community College theater. | | | | | | | Growing | | | | With a vision to turn Leeward neighbors into the ‘ohana of God and a passion to present the message of Jesus Christ in a creative yet practical way, New Hope Leeward continued to build leaders and grow in attendance. Participation in weekly ‘ohana groups increased, youth ministries were formed and community outreach projects were launched while on Sunday mornings one service time grew to three service times! | | | | | | | A New Home | | | | By the end of the first year, it was clear that New Hope Leeward was only at the very beginnings of God’s huge plans for the church to make a difference in the Leeward community and in the world. Part of God’s plan included a permanent facility to become the Ministry Center for the numerous growing ministries and the 1,200 people who called New Hope Leeward their home church. | | | | | | | A Blessed House | | | | In the summer of 2004, the early members of New Hope Leeward sacrificially contributed in amazing ways the finances to make it possible to convert a former Safeway building into a 40,000 square foot house of God. The exuberant grand opening celebration in the fall of the same year was incredibly marked in the hearts of all as members wrote scriptures on the floor of the new building symbolizing the church’s united commitment to be a church grounded in the Word of God! | | | | | | | Ready and Willing | | | As New Hope Leeward continued it’s strategic initiatives to grow every member of their church ‘ohana deeper and stronger in their walk with Jesus Christ, God continued to allow the church to become a spiritual force in the community as the church continued to increase in numbers and influence. By the summer of 2005, the outstanding spiritual and numerical growth of this young church ‘ohana motivated Pastor Mike and the leadership to expand the church to a second location. Within months, the movie theaters at Pearl Highlands on Sunday morning became the second site of New Hope Leeward offering two more weekend service times and an energetic junior high school rally. | |
| | | | | Still Growing | | | | In August of 2007, New Hope Leeward opened up a third site, the Ewa Beach Campus, that meets in Campbell High School's gymnasium. Today, with upwards of 3,000 in weekend attendance in eight weekend services at three campuses, New Hope Leeward’s heart is not to grow a big church, but to grow big people in Jesus Christ! Ask Pastor Mike what the best aspect of New Hope Leeward is and he’ll immediately respond, “It’s definitely the awesome hearts of our people…our church is simply an ‘ohana doing life and learning to love Jesus together!” | | | | | | | A Passion to Reach Others | | | | With a continued passion to make Jesus famous and an ongoing commitment to partnering with their members in reaching others for Jesus, this young church is looking forward in anticipation to all the mighty things God will be doing in their midst! | | |
