Remember your wedding day: It was magical as you took vows to love and support “til death do us part”. As a couple you were full of dreams of success together, living a lifetime of bliss. Fast forward… things are not perfect. Small arguments are becoming big conflicts. Bliss often turns into just tolerance. Sadly, 50% of marriages end in painful divorce affecting the couple, the extended family and especially the children. At New Hope Leeward, we love families and commit to supporting marriages, thus making the family stronger. Join us for these weekend messages titles “Marriage Makeover”. The information and action steps that you will learn will help to make marriages better - impacting generations to come.

August 28/29

Marriage is a relationship that is constantly changing. When married couples do not learn how to change and adapt successfully to life’s stressors it causes chaos, disharmony, tears and the marriage often ends in divorce. In this message series introduction we will be have instructions on a completing a “Couples Checkup” that will help couples be intentional in assessing what needs to change to move their marriages into a healthy future.

September 4/5

In a survey of over 50,000 couples communication was identified as the major gauge of marital happiness. The art of communicating in marriage takes intentional effort and is a skill that is developed. This message will help us learn how to use our personal communication style in such a way as to not just hear our spouse, but to actively listen. Communicating effectively with our partner has the potential to increase intimacy and develop mutual support, which leads to a thriving marriage!

September 11/12

During the engagement period and in the early stages of marriage, couples usually do not focus on their differences but rather on what they have in common. Unfortunately, it is the differences in values and perspectives that cause the greatest amount of conflict in a marriage. All couples need to view obstacles and conflicts as opportunities for growth and change. This week’s message will demonstrate how thriving marriages embrace conflict as a normal and natural aspect of life that can be harnessed to strengthen the marriage.

September 18/19

Financial issues tend to be one of the most common sources of stress for couples and families. Thriving marriages will still have challenges with finances; however, they are able to agree on how to handle money. This message will help us to come to a place of agreement on relevant financial matters as a married couple. By recognizing the limitations of money, learning how to make financial decisions jointly and adhering to a budget, marriages can experience a greater unity and less stress.

September 25/26

Generally in a marriage, the sexual relationship is an emotional barometer that reflects a couple’s satisfaction with other aspects of their relationship. An unsatisfying sexual relationship may be an indication that something needs a makeover in the relationship. In a culture where media bombards us with wrong images of what a sexual relationship should look like, it is critical that we envision a healthy sexual relationship within a healthy Christ-centered marriage. This message will open the dialogue for married couples to create more sexual intimacy.

October 2/3

A shared faith journey can provide a significant foundation for a stronger marital relationship. When the inevitable challenges of life arise in a marriage, couples with a strong shared belief in Jesus Christ will navigate through the season with a greater sense of unity. Sometimes in marriage faith and prayer is the only arsenal against situations, events, and trials that make no sense. As we complete this series we will learn about the power of a shared faith in a marriage. It is wise for couples to make every effort to grow in Christ together as a life-long faith journey that will ultimately serve as the foundation for their marriage, allowing it to thrive!
